CAT looks to fast-track efficiency of Paratransit

While a lot of attention has been paid recently to Chatham Area Transit’s aggressive overhaul of its fixed route bus service, officials with the transportation agency’s governing board got tips last week for streamlining another CAT linchpin — the Paratransit program.

Paratransit — a service required by the Federal Transit Administration to provide transportation to passengers with physical or mental disabilities — is the fastest growing segment of CAT’s system. While other services experienced a decline in ridership during the last fiscal year, Paratransit ridership climbed by more than 24 percent, according to a staff report presented to the CAT Board of Directors on July 18. Read more of the original article.
